Our communities chose to either participate in The Walk to End Alzheimer’s or The Walk 4 Alzheimer’s. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a fundraising effort hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association each year to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.  The Walk 4 Alzheimer’s is a walk in support of the Alzheimer’s Network to raise funds to provide support to individuals, families and caregivers impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

What is Alzheimer’s?

Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, behavior and cognitive ability. It is a widespread issue that currently is without a cure. According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, more than 5 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease. One out of three seniors dies with Alzheimer’s or another type of dementia. It is currently the 6th leading cause of death in the United States. Finding a cure for Alzheimer’s could potentially help save 500,000 lives a year.
